REGENERART – Rethinking gender equality through art

Durante la pandemia causata dal Covid-19, le ineguaglianze hanno portato a un diverso livello di impatto sulle donne e sugli uomini, incluso un aumento della violenza contro le donne (violence against women – VAW). L’uguaglianza di genere è la condizione necessaria per raggiungere la crescita e la coesione sociale anche come elemento chiave nella prevenzione della VAW.
Poiché il genere è costruito socialmente e l’arte è l’espressione della società in cui esso è incorporato, se lo guardiamo da una prospettiva di genere si spiega da sè come, troppo spesso, l’arte abbia contribuito alla cristallizzazione e alla riproduzione degli stereotipi di genere e a relazioni non eque inique tra uomini e donne. Per la stessa ragione, l’arte ha il potere intrinseco di riscrivere la percezione collettiva dei ruoli delle donne e degli uomini, adoperandosi per pià eguaglianza, equità e inclusione.

Il progetto Regenerart produrrà 4 Outputs / ”prodotti” utili al raggiungimento di questi obiettivi comuni:

Output 1: Un corso E-learning per gli insegnanti. Gli insegnanti impareranno come fare un uso innovativo dell’arte e della creatività e promuovere uguali diritti tra donne e uomini, aumentare il pensiero critico e le capactà delle giovani generazioni di riconoscere relazioni di potere sbilanciato e prevenire comportamenti pericolosi che potrebbero condurre alla violenza di genere.
Alla fine del corso gli insegnanti avranno la possibilità di scaricare una Quick Guide che li supporterà nel programmare e condurre attività educative creative con I propri studenti, usando l’arte per parlare di stereotipi di genere e di eguaglianza tra donne e uomini.

Output 2 : Un “Manifesto” creato dagli studenti e artisti che richieda con urgenza di includere una prospettiva di genere nel modo in cui guardiamo all’arte, sia come artisti che come fruitori. Questo alzerà l’attenzione di artisti, curatori, compagni studenti, sulle politiche dell’arte e su chi prende le decisioni sul ruolo che l’arte può giocare nei campi dell’educazione e della cultura per promuovere la parità di genere, l’equità e l’inclusione sociale.

Output 3: Una galleria online per la promozione di una nuova arte sensibile al genere. Uno spazio virtuale che ospiterà opere e artisti che vogliano contribuire a una società più giusta e inclusiva, basandosi sul principio che l’uguaglianza di genere e l’arte sono pilastri per “costruire” persone e comunità sostenibili e resilienti, capaci di affrontare sfide attuali e future.

Output 4: Un manuale che conduca gli insegnanti, gli studenti o qualsiasi altro lettore, in un viaggio attraverso la storia dell’arte. Il manuale presenterà esempi chiari di come l’arte sia stata influenzata dai ruoli di genere esistenti nella precisa epoca di produzione dell’opera e, allo stesso tempo, come l’arte deve avere influenzato le società nelle quali era e ancora è incastonata.

REGENERART aims to promote art and creativity as innovative tools to increase the competences of secondary school teachers and students to re-think gender roles and stereotypes towards a more equal and inclusive society, free of gender-based violence against women and discriminations.

Under the Covid-19 pandemic, inequalities have led to a different impact on women and men, including an increase in violence against women (VAW). Gender equality is a necessary condition to achieve growth and social cohesion and a key element in the prevention of VAW.

As gender is socially constructed and art is the expression of the society it is embedded in, if looked from a gender perspective, it becomes self-explanatory that, too often, art has contributed to the crystallisation and reproduction of gender stereotypes and unequal relations between men and women. For the same reason, art has an intrinsic power to rewrite the collective perception of men’s and women’s roles, striving for more equality, equity and inclusion.

Based on this rationale, REGENERART aims to promote art and creativity as innovative tools to increase the competences of secondary school teachers and students to re-think gender roles and stereotypes towards a more equal and inclusive society, free of gender-based violence against women (GBVAW) and discriminations.

E-learning course

A self-paced E-learning course for teachers. Teachers will learn how to make an innovative use of art and creativity and to promote equal rights between men and women, increase the critical thinking and capacity of young generations to recognise unbalanced power relationships and prevent risky behaviours that could result in gender-based violence.

At the end of the course, teachers will have the possibility to download a Quick Guide that supports them in setting up and conduct creative educational activities with their students, using art to talk about gender stereotypes and equality between women and men.

Manifesto for a new gender-sensitive art

A Manifesto developed by students and artists urging to include a gender perspective in the way we look at art, both as artists and as art recipients. It will raise awareness of artists, curators, fellow students, scholars and policy and decision-makers on the role art can play in the education and cultural fields to promote gender equality, equity and social inclusion.

REGENERART online exhibition space for the promotion of a new gender-sensitive art

A virtual hub hosting artworks and artists that want to contribute to a more just and inclusive society, based on the assumption that gender equality and art are pillars for building sustainable and resilient communities and people, able to tackle current and future challenges.

REGENERART Textbook : Looking at Art from a gender perspective

A textbook taking teachers, students, or any other reader, to a journey throughout art history. The textbook will present explanatory examples of how art has been influenced by the gender roles existing at that time and, concurrently, how art must have influenced the societies in which it was and still is embedded.
